Hiking in Bend and Central Oregon

With more than 2.5 million acres of national forests in Bend, and the Three Sisters Wilderness area close by, there are plenty of places to get away for a day, or even a multi-day hike. Many of the hikes will take you through ponderosa pine forests and out to mountain lakes or creeks. There are several hundred miles of marked trails accessible from the Bend area. A lot of the popular trails start from the Sparks Lake or Todd Lake area by Mount Bachelor. Hiking up the South Sister Mountain is a popular day hike, and even though it doesn’t require any special equipment to get to the top, it is a very strenuous trail. The epic Pacific Crest Trail is also located nearby as it continues either north or south down into California.
