By Air:
Air travel in and out of Bend and Central Oregon has been growing with the population. Roberts Air Field located in Redmond (just 20 minutes north of Bend) now has several airlines to choose from including Horizon Air, Delta, united Express, Sky West, and Allegiant Air. Direct flights are available to Portland, OR; Seatle, WA; Spokane, WA; Salt Lake City, Utah; San Francisco, CA; Los Angeles, CA; and Las Vegas, NV. From these major hubs one can fly almost anywhere in the world.
Bend itself has a smaller airport used mostly for cargo flights and private air travel.
By Bus:
Bus transportation from anywhere in the northwest is a relatively inexpensive and reliable way to get into Central Oregon. Greyhound, as well as other transportation companies, has regularly scheduled service to the area.
Central Oregon Breeze Bus Transportation offers daily trips to Eugene and Portland from Bend. This works well for those who don’t drive or are looking for a worry free commute to the larger cities.
By Train:
Unfortunately, despite the increase in population and improved transportation in other realms, Central Oregon still does not have Amtrak service. The closest passenger train stations are in Eugene and Hood River. This is considered odd to many who live here due to the fact that one of the main north to south Union Pacific lines runs right through Bend.
By Automobile:
Highway 97 and Highway 20 are the two main avenues to and from Central Oregon. By automobile: Portland is 3 hours, Salem is 2 hours, Eugene is 21/2 hours, and Medford is 3 hours. Auto travel is scenic, but can be dangerous in the wintertime due to the fact that one must cross over a mountain pass to get to the Willamette Valley.
