Central Oregon Schools and Education

One of the most attractive qualities that draw families to Central Oregon is that it is a great place to raise a family, and of course education plays a huge role in this. The Bend/LaPine School District offers 24 schools to service nearly 15,000 students.

Primary/Elementary
As with the Medical Community, the region attracts high quality teachers and administrators and consequently the Bend/LaPine School district is full of creative, energetic, and caring professionals. Innovative teaching ranging from the use of internet resources in the class room to bicycle safety day help to get students a broad skill set to take into secondary education.

Secondary
The quality of public school education has dropped off significantly in many regions of the country. This is not true of Central Oregon. In response to the Oregon Education Act for the 21st Century, Bend has implemented two new levels of mastery in secondary education. A Certificate of Initial Mastery given to students who exit the 10th grade recognizes a level of education that in years past represented 12th grade graduates. The Certificate of Advanced Mastery signifies a 12th grade graduate as having skills and education to succeed in the workforce and post-secondary pursuits.

Central Oregon Community College
COCC is a well rounded community college offering 2 year associate degrees in areas ranging from business to health. Technical training is also available and numerous certificate programs are also available. A broad spectrum of community classes and education for those seeking personal enrichment rounds out the diversity of classes offered here. Students have the option of leaving COCC with a range of experience anywhere from simply being able to run a Photoshop editor to all of the prerequisites required for advancement on to the University setting.

Oregon State University Campus
Working in close collaboration with Central Oregon Community College, OSU offers 20 degree programs in Accounting, Art, Business Administration, Education, English, Environmental Sciences, General Agriculture, General Science, General Social Science, Human Management, Natural Resources, Nursing, Public Administration, and Teacher Education. This means that a student could literally spend their entire educational life in Central Oregon without leaving. More degree programs are planned for the near future and rumor has it that a new campus may be in the works.
