Fishing in Central Oregon
Many regions of the (especially the Northwest) claim “world class fishing” as part of their appeal; among these, Central Oregon certainly stands up to that claim.
There really is fishing here for everyone. The Cascade Lakes offer some of the most exciting trout angling anywhere and a persistent angler can capture a variety of species including rainbow, brook, cutthroat, brown, kokanee, bull, and mackinaw trout. There is even a lake that is home to a healthy batch of Atlantic salmon that were planted as an experiment years ago. They thrived and have been a cagy target for many fishermen over the years.
Prefer rivers? Central Oregon is home to the world famous Deschutes River where the “red-side” trout grow large and several strong runs of wild and hatchery steelhead test the skills of fishermen and women every year. Some claim that the Deschutes River Steelhead is pound-for-pound the toughest fighting river sport fish there is. Other well-known rivers include the Crooked River, the Fall River, the Metolius River, and the John Day River.
